"This is life eternal," Christ said, "that they might know Thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom Thou hast sent." John 17:3. Why is it that we do not realize the value of this knowledge? Why are not these glorious truths glowing in our hearts, trembling upon our lips, and pervading our whole being?

— Ellen White, Christ Object Lessons {COL 133.3}

TO THE LAW AND TO THE TESTIMONY

“In order to be co-workers with God, in order to become like Him and TO REVEAL HIS CHARACTER, WE MUST KNOW HIM ARIGHT. WE MUST KNOW HIM AS HE REVEALS HIMSELF. A knowledge of God is the foundation of all true education and of all true service. It is the only real safeguard against temptation. It is this alone that can make us like God in character. This is the knowledge needed by all who are working for the uplifting of their fellow men. TRANSFORMATION OF CHARACTER, PURITY OF LIFE, EFFICIENCY IN SERVICE, ADHERENCE TO CORRECT PRINCIPLES, ALL DEPEND UPON A RIGHT KNOWLEDGE OF GOD. THIS KNOWLEDGE IS THE ESSENTIAL PREPARATION BOTH FOR THIS LIFE AND FOR THE LIFE TO COME.” — Ministry of Healing p. 409
“The sanctification of the soul is accomplished through steadfastly beholding Him by faith AS THE ONLY BEGOTTEN SON OF GOD, full of grace and truth. The power of truth is to transform heart and character. Its effect is not like a dash of color here and there upon the canvas; the whole character is to be transformed, the image of Christ is to be revealed in words and actions. A new nature is imparted. Man is renewed after the image of Christ in righteousness and true holiness.” — Lt2a-1892.6
“The KNOWLEDGE OF GOD AS REVEALED IN CHRIST is the knowledge that all who are saved must have. This is the knowledge that works transformation of character. Received into the life, it will re-create the soul in the image of Christ. This is the knowledge that God invites His children to receive, beside which all else is vanity and nothingness.” — AA 475.1

It is our privilege to know God experimentally, and in true knowledge of God is life eternal. THE ONLY BEGOTTEN SON OF GOD WAS GOD’S GIFT TO THE WORLD, in whose character was revealed the character of him who gave the law to men and angels. He came to proclaim the fact, “The Lord our God is one Lord,” and him only shalt thou serve… UNLESS MEN SHALL KNOW GOD AS CHRIST HAS REVEALED HIM, THEY WILL NEVER FORM A CHARACTER AFTER THE DIVINE SIMILITUDE, AND WILL THEREFORE NEVER SEE GOD. {RH March 9, 1897, par. 9, 10}

Personality of God

"I entreat every one to be clear and firm regarding the certain truths that we have heard and received and advocated. The statements of God's Word are plain. Plant your feet firmly on the platform of eternal truth. Reject every phase of error, even though it be covered with a semblance of reality, which denies the personality of God and of Christ." Ellen White, RH August 31, 1905, par. 11
"He who denies the personality of God and of his Son Jesus Christ, is denying God and Christ. “If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.” If you continue to believe and obey the truths you first embraced regarding the personality of the Father and the Son, you will be joined together with him in love. There will be seen that union for which Christ prayed just before his trial and crucifixion:" RH March 8, 1906, par. 19
"The sanctuary question is a clear and definite doctrine as we have held it as a people. You are not definitely clear on the personality of God, which is everything to us as a people. You have virtually destroyed the Lord God Himself." 18LtMs, Lt 300, 1903, par. 7
"The spiritualistic theories regarding the personality of God, followed to their logical conclusion, sweep away the whole Christian economy. They estimate as nothing the light that Christ came from heaven to give John to give to His people. They teach that the scenes just before us are not of sufficient importance to be given special attention. They make of no effect the truth of heavenly origin, and rob the people of God of their past experience, giving them instead a false science." SpTB02 54.1
“Christ IS ONE with the Father, but Christ and God are TWO distinct personages. Read the prayer of Christ in the seventeenth chapter of John, and you will find this point clearly brought out. How earnestly the Saviour prayed THAT HIS DISCIPLES MIGHT BE ONE WITH HIM AS HE IS ONE WITH THE FATHER. But the unity that is to exist between Christ and His followers DOES NOT DESTROY the personality of either. They are to be one with Him AS He is one with the Father.” (The Review and Herald, June 1, 1905)
“The Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of the Father, IS TRULY GOD in infinity, BUT NOT IN PERSONALITY.” — E.G. White, MS116, December 19, 1905)
