Does Acts 5:3-4 say the Holy Spirit is God or that they lied to the “Almighty God” as it is His Spirit? Acts 5:3-4(KJV) “But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.”
There are many Christians who believe that the incarnate Man Christ Jesus has forever forfeited His omnipresence. And because of this underlying assumption, many are led to believe that Christ is forever heaven-bound and that Christ’s mediatorial work here on earth is now left to another person called the Holy Spirit who is Christ’s “successor” and His “representative” on earth.
Few understand how the Trinity doctrine came to be accepted – several centuries after the Bible was completed! Yet its roots go back much farther in history.
Most respond, “How can Christ represent Himself?” Many fail to realize that the Spirit of Christ can function like a person separate to Himself, so it is like “another” person. This is the nature of the Holy Spirit that Ellen White said we cannot understand; it is a mystery…. “Christ in you, the hope of glory”(Col 1:27).
The “nature” of the Holy Spirit is a mystery but the Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy (EGW writing’s) reveals clearly the IDENTITY of the Holy Spirit. Below is a short study on the identity of the “Third Person of the Godhead” — responding to often misunderstood statement by Ellen White:
Many understand the phrase, “another comforter” in John 14: 16 to mean a divine being who is who is entirely different than Christ called “God the Holy Spirit.” In general, those who hold to some form of trinitarian teaching believes that the Holy Spirit or the “Comforter” as He is referred in John 14 is an entirely different individual not unlike how Christ and God the Father are two distinctly separate individuals. But is this true? Let’s take a closer look.
“The great Creator assembled the heavenly host, that He might in the presence of all the angels confer special honor upon His Son. The Son was seated on the throne with the Father, and the heavenly throng of holy angels was gathered around them. The Father then made known that IT WAS ORDAINED BY HIMSELF THAT CHRIST, HIS SON, SHOULD BE EQUAL WITH HIMSELF.”

In Hebrews 1:1-9 we note that the speaker is God the Father and that He is addressing His Son and calling Him “God.”
Verse 2 says that Christ was “appointed heir” of all things. An “HEIR” of course is someone who receives an “inheritance” from someone. In this case Christ the Son received an “INHERITANCE” from His Father.
Genesis 1:2 “… And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” Some argue that the Spirit of God, which moved upon the face of the water was a separate, distinct personal being referred to as the God the Holy Spirit. But the text itself gives no evidence for this.
Many well meaning Christians believe that the Holy Spirit which, descended upon Christ during His baptism was a distinct, separate personal being. Trinitarians claim that the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit was all present at the same time at Christ’s baptism and therefore constitute a description of Trinity.
