Divinity of Christ

Upholding the Divinity of Christ

By Paul Chung
One of the main criticisms from the modern trinitarian Adventists of the pioneers’ non-trinitarian position is the idea that, if Jesus is the literal pre-incarnate begotten Son then, it denigrates the divinity of Christ and that to be literally begotten would effectively make Christ a created being. Based on some of the data, it appears that the church back then faced similar objections.

Examining “The Bible Doctrine of the Trinity”

The controversy over the Godhead in Seventh-day Adventism at the present time is carried out on a number of levels – Biblical, Spirit of Prophecy, Historical and Rational – both individually, and with overlap. The principal of taking “the weight of evidence” (3T, p. 255) should apply to each of these, but in reality, a true understanding will harmonize all so called “anomalies” which lie outside this weight.

The Subordination of Christ

By the Rev. Samuel T. Spear D. D.
The following article, The Bible Doctrine of the Trinity (aka “The Subordination of Christ”), was written by a Presbyterian minister named the Rev. Samuel Thayer Spear D.D. (1812-1891). It was first published in ‘The New York Independent’ in 1889, then 3 years later in 1892, it was adopted by the Seventh-day Adventist church and was included in the church “Bible Students Library.”

Trinity, A Case of Homonym

”The Bible is not given to us in grand superhuman language. Jesus, in order to reach man where he is, took humanity. The Bible must be given in the language of men. Everything that is human is imperfect. DIFFERENT MEANINGS ARE EXPRESSED BY THE SAME WORD; THERE IS NOT ONE WORD FOR EACH DISTINCT IDEA. The Bible was given for practical purposes.” — Ellen White, Ms24-1886.6

Only True God

Understanding 1 Corinthians 8:6

There are many today who use this text of scripture to promote the belief that (a) Christ is not God, (b) Christ should not be referred to as God, (c) Christ is not, in any way, truly God, and (d) the Father is the only person who should be called God…

Spirit of Prophecy

Chapman Letter

Many Trinitarian Adventists have quoted various statements taken out of context from what Ellen White had written in order to discredit the non-trinitarian views of the Holy Spirit and to dissuade any inquiry into the subject matter. Among the various statements that are often quoted are taken from a letter Ellen White had written to Brother Chapman from Petoskey, Michigan, on June 11, 1891 and is generally referred to as the “Chapman Letter.”

Begotten Son

Don’t Get Short Changed

In 1903, Ellen White wrote a letter to her sons, Edson and Willie, explaining that her two books, Patriarchs and Prophets and The Great Controversy, were especially adapted for those new to the faith of Seventh-day Adventists. She said these books had been written so that newcomers could become established in the truth, and not be led astray.

Who is Telling the Truth?

In his video, Doug Batchelor attempts to have people believe that (a) begotten means created, and that (b) Christ, in His pre-existence, was not begotten of God (therefore He is not truly the Son of God), and that (c) Proverbs 8:22-31 is not speaking of Christ.

Personality of God

The Personality of God

By James White
Man was made in the image of God. “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.” “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him.” Gen.i,26,27. See also chap.ix,6; 1Cor.xi,7. Those who deny the personality of God, say that “image” here does not mean physical form, but moral image, and they make this the grand starting point to prove the immortality of all men…

Blasphemeth Against the Holy Ghost?

By Paul Chung
Trinitarian’s Objection: If the Holy Spirit and the Spirit of Christ are the same as how non-trinitarians claim then how is it that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost is not forgiven but speaking against Christ shall be forgiven? How can one be forgiven and not the other if they are the same person?
