âAnd he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead. (Luke 16:31)
In the statement above the Lord Jesus makes it clear that even the greatest miracle, such as His resurrection from the dead, will not persuade a man who will not listen to Moses and the prophets. This is a statement that reveals the primacy of inspired Word. It is the prophetic word which we should heed.
In this forum and elsewhere I have been seeing my brethren, even ministers in the remnant church, negate the Spirit of prophecy as manifested through Ellen White. They have been doing so in defense of the doctrine of the trinity.
I have witnessed the following six ideas, all from men who have theological training, postulated in defense of this doctrine:
1) God is formless and EGW, who says otherwise, got it wrong.
2) When EGW makes the case for a begotten pre-incarnate Son (i.e. a Son who was begotten in all the brightness of His Fatherâs majesty and glory) the Bible trumps EGW. The implication here is that again she got it wrong.
3) God is 3 Persons who are actually 1 Person.
4) God is actually an infinite number of Persons.
5) The holy Spirit is not the Spirit of God and Spirit of Christ.
6) The holy Spirit Itself possesses a Spirit. Thus there is a Spirit of the Spirit.
Brother and sisters in Jesus, the first 5 ideas listed above are incorrect and the last one is speculative and no such thing has ever been revealed to us. What can we say in response to these things? I have shared numerous Bible verses and quotes from the testimonies which show them to be false but so far to no avail. What else can we do? If they hear not Moses and the prophets, and EGW is a prophet, then neither will they be persuaded even if one rose from the dead.
Yet for all those who have an ear to hear let the truth be proclaimed. I am not going to repudiate the idea of a formless God again or show forth the evidence for a pre-incarnate begotten Son. Neither will I negate the idea of God being 3 Persons who are actually 1 Person or the notion that the Personal Being who is God is actually an infinite number of Persons. Instead, in this post, I am going to focus on proving that the holy Spirit is the Spirit of God and Spirit of Christ. First we will show evidence for this in the Bible then from the testimonies. Now our evidencing of this will not be comprehensive. There is a great deal of data on the matter but what I hope to do is show enough evidence so that the truth can be seen for those who honestly want to know.
1)The holy Spirit is the Spirit possessed by God.
âBut they rebelled, and vexed HIS HOLY SPIRIT: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them. Then he remembered the days of old, Moses, and his people, saying, Where is he that brought them up out of the sea with the shepherd of his flock? where is he that put HIS HOLY SPIRIT within him? (Isaiah 63:10, 11)
He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us HIS HOLY SPIRIT. (1 Thess 4:8)
And grieve not THE HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. (Eph 4:30)
Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not THY HOLY SPIRIT from me. (Psalm 51:11)
Note: Please note the possessive pronouns âHisâ and âThyâ here. Thus we see that the holy Spirit is possessed by God.
2) The holy Spirit (aka: holy Ghost) is the Spirit of God
Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by THE SPIRIT OF GOD calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by THE HOLY GHOST (1 Cor 12:3)
19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. 20 For it is not ye that speak, but THE SPIRIT OF YOUR FATHER which speaketh in you. (Matt 10:19, 20)
11 But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but THE HOLY GHOST (Mark 13:11)
Note: The Bible evidence above shows us that the âSpirit of Godâ is synonymous with the âholy Ghostâ (aka: holy Spirit). It is important to understand that the Bible parallels man and the spirit of man with God and the Spirit of God. Just as we have a spirit within us (our character) so also God has a Spirit within Himself, the Spirit of God (His character)
3) The holy Spirit (aka: holy Ghost) is the Spirit of Christ:
10 Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: Searching what, or what manner of time THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. (1 Pet 1:10, 11)
20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by THE HOLY GHOST (2 Pet 1:20, 21)
Note: A careful reader will note that the âSpirit of Christâ is also synonymous with the âholy Ghostâ (aka: holy Spirit). And the time period that Peter is speaking of is actually before the incarnation. Here we are starting to touch upon the mystery that this same Spirit which is the Spirit of God is also the Spirit of His Son.
4) The Father gave the fullness of the Spirit unto His Son.
âFor he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not THE SPIRIT by measure unto him. (John 3:34)
21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art IN me, and I IN thee, that they also may be one IN us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. 22 And THE GLORY WHICH THOUGH GAVEST ME I have given them; THAT THEY MAY BE ONE, EVEN AS WE ARE ONE: 23 I IN them, and thou IN me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. 24 Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world (John 17:21-24)
Note: The Spirit is not given by measure unto the Son. He fully possesses It. So much so that the Bible refers to It as the Spirit of Christ, as we saw in the previous point. Notice also in John 17 that âthe gloryâ was given unto Christ. He, in turn, gives it to His disciples in order to make them one, âeven asâ the Father and Son are one. What we are speaking of here is the Spirit. We will return to this point later when we look at EGWâs teaching.
5) The Son possesses the omnipresent Spirit of God.
And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that HATH the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead (Rev 3:1)
And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, HAVING seven horns and seven eyes, WHICH ARE the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth. (Rev 5:6)
Note: The Greek verb “echo” is used here. It means to hold, own, possess. The symbolic portrayal makes these a natural part of the Lamb. Thus the conclusion here is that He, the Son, possesses the Spirit of God as a part of His Being. And the 7 Spirits of God is a portrayal of His omnipresence (i.e. sent forth into all the earth). What we are really dealing with here is the omnipresence of the Spirit of Christ.
6) The holy Spirit proceeds from the Father.
But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you FROM the Father, even the Spirit of truth, WHICH PROCEEDETH FROM THE FATHER, he shall testify of me (John 15:26)
Note: Inasmuch as the holy Spirit is the Spirit of God this makes logical sense. The Spirit comes from Him. Later on, when we look at EGW’s teaching, we will see that the means whereby God does this is by having this same Spirit proceed to us from His Son. It is important to understand that the holy Spirit is not just the Spirit of Christ but also the Spirit of the Father. Thus there is always a sense in which It is other yet simultaneously a sense in which It is the same.
7) We partake of the holy Spirit by becoming “one spirit” with the Son. Though the Spirit in Him we access the Father.
“But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. (1 Cor 6:17)
“For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. (Eph 2;18)
8) There is only “one Spirit.”
There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; (Eph 4:4)
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. (1 Cor 12:13)
Note: Contrary to the idea that there is a Spirit of the holy Spirit what we are seeing here is that the holy Spirit is the “one Spirit” that unites the believer to God and His Son.
9) The Spirit which proceeds from the Father is the Spirit of His Son.
And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth THE SPIRIT OF HIS SON into your hearts, CRYING, ABBA, FATHER. (Gal 4:6)
Note: We must remember that there is only “one Spirit.” The Spirit of God’s Son is not a different entity from the holy Spirit (aka: Spirit of God). The spiritual Presence of Both Father and Son is being conveyed by the holy Spirit but the Son is the One being personified. When we grasp this then a passage like Romans 8, which switches between the Spirit, Spirit of God and Spirit of Christ interchangeably makes sense.
9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in THE SPIRIT , if so be that THE SPIRIT OF GOD DWELL IN YOU. Now if any man have not THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST, he is none of his. 10 And if CHRIST BE IN YOU, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.11 But if THE SPIRIT OF HIM that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, HE THAT RAISED UP CHRIST from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by HIS SPIRIT THAT DWELLETH IN YOU.12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. 13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through THE SPIRIT do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.14 For as many as are led by THE SPIRIT OF GOD, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received THE SPIRIT OF ADOPTION, whereby WE CRY, ABBA, FATHER. (Rom 8:9-15)
BIBLICAL CONCLUSION:
The Biblical data completely repudiates the idea that the holy Spirit is not the Spirit of God and Spirit of Christ. While we understand from sister White that the holy Spirit is the 3rd Person of the Godhead, a conscious, distinct personality outside of the tangible forms of Father and Son, It is still the actual Spirit of God and His Son. Any doctrine that says otherwise does not pass the test of inspiration. Now let’s turn to the writings of EGW to see what light God has shed on the matter through her. Now there is such an abundance of data here that I cannot possibly systematize it all in this document. Therefore what I will do is share the data which I promised to touch upon above, then give a selection of quotes which affirm the âone Spiritâ as the means of unity and finally some others which help to properly identify the holy Spirit. As promised letâs return to this point.
Jason wrote: Notice also in John 17 that âthe gloryâ was given unto Christ. He, in turn, gives it to His disciples in order to make them one, âeven asâ the Father and Son are one. What we are speaking of here is the Spirit. We will return to this point later when we look at EGWâs teaching. [End Quote]
What EGW brings out here is that âthe gloryâ here is actually the holy Spirit. âJesus is seeking to impress upon them the thought that in giving HIS HOLY SPIRIT He is giving to them THE GLORY which the Father HATH GIVEN HIM, that He and His people may be one in GodâŠ{ST Oct 3, 1892, par.4} Note: What we are seeing here is that the holy Spirit of God was given unto His Son. This is His glory. He, in turn, shares this very same Spirit with His followers so that they may be one in God. This is a partaking of the Divine nature. Not that we experience the fullness of the Godhead bodily (we do not become omnipresent by the Spirit) but we do receive the fullness of the character of God through His Son. Now letâs look at how this oneness of Spirit unifies us with God and His Son.
1)Father and Son are “one in spirit.”
âFrom eternity there was a complete unity between the Father and the Son. They were two, yet little short of being identical; two in individuality, yet one in spirit, and heart, and character. {YI December 16, 1897, par. 5}
2) The Son of God incarnated so that humanity might become “one in Spirit” with Him
“Christ became one with humanity, that humanity might become one in Spirit and life with him. By virtue of this union in obedience to the word of God, his life becomes their life. {YI August 4, 1898, par. 7}
“Those who are partakers of the divine nature will be one in spirit with Christ. âFor he that is joined unto the Lord is one spiritâ
(1 Corinthians 6:17)…. {11MR 178.2}
3) The oneness in Spirit with Christ is by the agency of His holy Spirit
âAll who are one with Christ through faith in Him, by the agency of HIS HOLY SPIRIT, He carries through the science of that experience, which is life unto eternal life… {Ms131-1897.6}
There will be no discordant opinions among those who are taught by God. True saints are one in Spirit and action. The Holy Spirit binds them together, and all the power of satanic agencies cannot break this union. {Ms176-1899.22}
Now again, as promised, we return to the issue of the proceeding Spirit.
Jason wrote: The Spirit comes from Him [God]. Later on, when we look at EGW’s teaching, we will see that the means whereby God does this is by having this same Spirit proceed from His Son [End Quote]
âIt is His (Christ) purpose that the highest influence in the universe, EMANATING FROM the source of all power, shall be theirs. They are to have power to resist evil, power that neither earth, nor death, nor hell can master, power that will enable them to overcome as Christ overcame.â (DA 679)
âWe must reach a higher standard; the highest influences in all the universe should be embodied in all our works. This is THE INFLUENCE OF THE COMFORTER EMANATING FROM GOD… {Ms4-1891.6}
Note: The source of all power is the Father. The holy Spirit emanates from Him. Jesus makes it clear that the Spirit âproceedeth from the Fatherâ (John 15:26). Thus He says that âI will pray [or ask] the Father and He [the Father] shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you foreverâ (John 14:26). Yet this very same Spirit proceeds from the Son Himself. In fact sister White informs us that âANOTHER COMFORTERâ actually ârefers to THE OMNIPRESENCE OF THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST, CALLED THE COMFORTER.â {Lt7-1891.14}
âTHE HOLY SPIRIT, WHICH PROCEEDS FROM THE ONLY BEGOTTEN SON OF GOD, binds the human agent, body, soul, and spirit, to the perfect, divine-human nature of Christ.â (RH, April 5, 1906)
âThe sap of the vine, ascending from the root, is diffused to the branches, sustaining growth and producing blossoms and fruit. So the life-giving power of the Holy Spirit, PROCEEDING FROM THE SAVIOUR, pervades the soul, renews the motives and affections, and brings even the thoughts into obedience to the will of God, enabling the receiver to bear the precious fruit of holy deeds.â (AA 284) “To all who desire to be recipients of HIS SPIRIT, THE VIRTUE FLOWS OUT FROM CHRIST. Christ. And it is IN THIS WAY that the character of God, the perfection of Christ and the Father, is brought before the world.” (RH, October 14, 1902 par. 11) Jesus is waiting to breathe upon all His disciples, and give them the inspiration of HIS SANCTIFYING SPIRIT, and TRANSFUSE THE VITAL INFLUENCE FROM HIMSELF to His people.” (Signs of the Times, Oct. 3, 1892.)
Note: When we understand that this very same Spirit in Its fullness was given unto Godâs Son then we can see how It proceeds to us from Him. The Son is the conduit through which the one Spirit flows. When we make the Spirit into something other from the actual Spirit of God and Spirit of Christ we are actually denying the Source of oneness which Jesus wants for us to have! Now there is a plethora more of inspired data point. Again I cannot sysytematize it all so I am simply going to share some quotes with headings for the edification of the readers:
IDENTITY:
“THE DIVINE SPIRIT that the world’s Redeemer promised to send, IS THE PRESENCE AND POWER OF GOD.â (ST, November 23, 1891)
âTHE HOLY SPIRIT IS THE VITAL PRESENCE OF GOD, and if appreciated will call forth praise and thanksgiving, and will ever be springing up unto everlasting life. {BEcho August 5, 1901, par. 4}
In giving us HIS SPIRIT, GOD GIVES US HIMSELF, making Himself a fountain of divine influences, to give health and life to the world (7T 273)
We want THE HOLY SPIRIT, WHICH IS JESUS CHRIST⊠(Letter 66, April 10, 1894- par. 18)
âTHE HOLY SPIRIT IS THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST, which is sent to all men to give them sufficiency, that through His grace we might be complete in Him… {14MR 84.3}
“Not the leaven of malice; not the leaven of jealousy; not the leaven of evil surmisings, but it is the leaven of the SPIRIT OF JESUS CHRIST, which is sent down from heaven, CALLED THE HOLY GHOST, and that Spirit affects the heart and the character.” -{1SAT 209.2}
“CHRIST WAS THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH. The world will not listen to His pleadings. They would not accept Him as their guide. They could not discern unseen things; spiritual things were unknown to them. But His disciples see in Him the way, the Truth, and the Life. And they shall have His abiding presence. (The Southern Review Oct 25, 1898)
âThis morning my hope is in Christ my Saviour. I pray that HE WILL IMPART HIS HOLY SPIRIT to me every day, that with heart and mind and strength I may glorify Him in this life. {UL 246.2}
âHere we have plainly revealed to us that if we preserve the meekness and lowliness of Christ, if we walk humbly by the side of the Burden-bearer, if we come in close contact with our Redeemer, in being thus yoked up with Him, HE WILL IMPART TO US HIS OWN INDIVIDUALITY. {Ms70-1896.33}
“It is THE SPIRIT that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing; the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. Christ is not here referring to his doctrine, BUT TO HIS PERSON, THE DIVINITY OF HIS CHARACTER. {RH April 5, 1906, par. 12}
Note: Just as was the case with the Bible we see the same thing with the testimonies. For anyone to declare that the holy Spirit is not the Spirit of God and Spirit of Christ is heresy. Again while the holy Spirit is the 3rd Person of the Godhead any doctrine which identifies It as something other than Godâs Spirit and His Sonâs Spirit is negating the truth taught to us by inspiration.
BREATH:
“GOD MUST BREATHE into your heart and spirit HIS BREATH OF LIFE. He is ready to do it. He is ready to take you into partnership with Himself. {Lt133-1897.14}
âWithout THE HOLY SPIRIT, without THE BREATH OF GOD, there is torpidity of conscience, loss of spiritual life.” (4 BC 1166)
“THE HOLY SPIRIT IS THE BREATH OF LIFE IN THE SOUL. The breathing of Christ upon his disciples was THE BREATH OF TRUE SPIRITUAL LIFE… The impartation of THE SPIRIT was the impartation of THE VERY LIFE OF CHRIST, which was to qualify the disciples for their mission. (RH, June 13, 1899)
“Jesus is waiting TO BREATHE upon all his disciples, and give them the inspiration of his sanctifying spirit, and TRANSFUSE THE VITAL INFLUENCE from himself to his people… Jesus is seeking to impress upon them the thought that IN GIVING HIS HOLY SPIRIT he is giving to them the glory which the Father has given him, that he and his people may be one in God…{ST October 3, 1892, par. 4}
“Those who rose up with Jesus would send up their faith to Him in the holiest, and pray, âMy Father, GIVE US THY SPIRIT.â Then JESUS WOULD BREATHE UPON THEM THE HOLY GHOST. IN THAT BREATH was light, power, and much love, joy, and peace. {EW 55.1}
“The Saviour has oft visited you in Battle Creek. Just as verily as He walked in the streets of Jerusalem, LONGING TO BREATHE THE BREATH OF SPIRITUAL LIFE into the hearts of those discouraged and ready to die, has He come to you. {8T 67.1}
“Christ was empowered TO BREATHE INTO FALLEN HUMANITY THE BREATH OF LIFE… {GCB April 1, 1899, Art. A, par. 4}
None who BREATHE THE BREATH OF GOD, RECEIVING THE HOLY SPIRIT FROM HIM, can be indifferent in regard to the welfare of others… {RH July 19, 1898, par. 22}
At his first advent, Christ came to the world as its Redeemer. He came to plant truth in the hearts of all who would give place to it, who would receive it and be converted. He came to take away the sin of the world, and to fill every heart with pure, healthful joy. HE LONGED TO BREATHE INTO PROSTRATE HUMANITY THE BREATH OF LIFE… {RH September 20, 1898, par. 3}
“GOD WILL BREATHE on sincere, contrite, penitent, believing disciples; BUT THE SELF-SUFFICIENT RECIEVE NOT THE INSPIRATION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. {Lt109a-1898.15}
Christ overcame all corrupting influence. He knows just man is beset. He knows the strength of every temptation. He knows how to meet man under all circumstances, how to uplift and strength and IMBUE HIM WITH THE DIVINE NATURE, HOW TO BREATHE THE BREATH OF LIFE UPON HIM, SAYING, RECEIVE YE THE HOLY GHOST. {Ms43-1898.16}
âAll professions of Christianity are but lifeless expressions of faith until Jesus imbues the believer with HIS SPIRITUAL LIFE, WHICH IS THE HOLY GHOST.” (3SP, 242) SOUL: “This Comforter is the Holy Spirit-THE SOUL OF HIS LIFE, the efficacy of his church, the light and life of the world. With HIS SPIRIT Christ sends a reconciling influence and a power that takes away sin.” (EG White, Review and Herald, May 19, 1904)
CHARACTER:
“IT IS THE SPIRIT THAT QUICKENETH; the flesh profiteth nothing; the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” CHRIST IS NOT REFERRING TO HIS DOCTRINE, BUT TO HIS PERSON, THE DIVINITY OF HIS CHARACTER.”(RH, April 5, 1906) “That we might become acquainted with HIS DIVINE CHARACTER and life, Christ took our nature and dwelt among us. Divinity was revealed in humanity; the invisible glory in the visible human form. Men could learn of the unknown through the known;… {COL 17.1}
“He longs to see His children reveal a character after His similitude. As the sunbeam imparts to the flowers their varied and delicate tints, SO DOES GOD IMPART TO THE SOUL THE BEAUTY OF HIS OWN CHARACTER. {DA 313.2}
âThe words that I speak unto you, **they are Spirit***, and they are life.â John 6:63. âHe that heareth My word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life.â John 5:24. In every command and in every promise of the word of God is the power, THE VERY LIFE OF GOD, by which the command may be fulfilled and the promise realized. He who by faith receives the word is receiving ***THE VERY LIFE AND CHARACTER OF GOD***. {COL 38.1}
“Sin could be resisted and overcome only through the mighty agency of the THIRD PERSON OF THE GODHEAD, who would come with no modified energy, but in the fullness of divine power. It is THE SPIRIT that makes effectual what has been wrought out by the worldâs Redeemer. It is by THE SPIRIT that the heart is made pure. Through THE SPIRIT the believer becomes a partaker of the divine nature. Christ has given **HIS SPIRIT ** as a divine power to overcome all hereditary and cultivated tendencies to evil, and ** TO IMPRESS HIS OWN CHARACTER ** upon His church. {DA 671.2}
“We are to be distinguished from the world because God has placed HIS SEAL upon us, because HE MANIFESTS IN US HIS OWN CHARACTER of love. Our Redeemer covers us with His righteousness. {MH 37.2}
“God can use every person just in proportion as He can put HIS SPIRIT into the soul temple. The work that He will accept is the work that REFLECTS HIS IMAGE. His followers are to bear, as their credentials to the world, THE INEFFACEABLE CHARACTERISTICS of His immortal principles. {MH 37.4}
“It is HIS HOLY SPIRIT that impresses us with the necessity of emptying the soul of all selfishness; and when we give ourselves to God, he will fill the vacuum with HIS DIVINE SPIRIT and give us the precious graces of HIS OWN CHARACTER. {BEcho July 1, 1892, par. 5}
Note: Similar to what we see above about the Spirit of God and character, sister White teaches that the spirit of man is actually his character too. âTHE SPIRIT, THE CHARACTER OF MAN is returned to God there to be preserved. In the resurrection every man will have HIS OWN CHARACTER… {Ms76-1900.10} This truth helps us to better understand the Spirit of God and Spirit of Christ and how It reproduces the Divine character within humanity.
CHRIST DIVESTED:
“Cumbered with humanity, Christ could not be in every place personally; therefore it was altogether for their advantage that He should leave them, go to His father, and send the Holy Spirit to be His successor on earth. THE HOLY SPIRIT IS HIMSELF DIVESTED OF THE PERSONALITY OF HUMANITY AND INDEPENDENT THEREOF. He would represent Himself as present in all places by His Holy Spirit, as THE OMNIPRESENT.â {PrT May 30, 1895, par. 7}
Note: Christ divested Himself of the form of God (RH July 5, 1887) when He came to become a part of the human family. Upon His return to heaven He divested His Spirit of the personality of humanity. This is a great mystery for He retained His human form but His Spirit has again its previous omnipresence. This is how He, the Son of God, is with us no matter where we are on the globe. In fact He is actually nearer to us than when here physically because His Spirit is now in us.
OMNIPRESENCE:
ââŠ.I will pray the Father, and he shall send you ANOTHER COMFORTER, that he may abide with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him; but ye know him, for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.â [John 14:16, 17.] THIS REFERS TO THE OMNIPESENCE OF THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST, called the Comforter. Again Jesus says, âI have many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit, when he, the Spirit of truth is come, he will guide you into all truth.â [John 16:12, 13.] {Lt7-1891.14}
“They have one God and one Saviour; and one Spiritâthe Spirit of Christâis to bring unity into their ranks. {9T 189.3}

The question is, do we want to accept what is written in the Book, or we want to find a way find our truth in the Scripture. 50 000 denomination is the proof people normally conclude what they basically want.
Sure, the Bible says: There is one body, and ONE SPIRIT, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; (Eph 4:4)
The Scripture does say the term âOne Spiritâ, but it also says One Body. Can we conclude the Father and Son share the same Body? – the passage actually talks about the Body of Christ and not teaching the Godhead.
So on what basis we conclude the Spirit is the Same?
When we are in The One Body which is the âBody of Christâ we are United and even become One Spirit, but we will never became an autonomic body and having a single autonomic spirit.
Sure, all living have a Spirit even animals have spirits. ALL Spirits originates from the Father. Even Jesus was given this Spirit/Life and Jesus owns that Spirit. This is the reason why there is a valid term âSpirit of Christâ.
And it is evident, some things related to the Spirit of the Father and some to the Spirit of the Son.
âNo man can come to me, except the FATHER WHICH HAS SENT ME DRAW HIM…â Jn 6:44
The Son does not draw people to Himself, the Father does? How? With His Spirit.
Or âJesus led up of the: Spirit into the wildernessâ. Who led Jesus? Was it himself leading?
If we apply the shared spirit concept we run into many serious problem and we have to exercise philosophy to get out from confusion.
This idea locks away from many great truth as well.
Like the Body is Christ is coming together by the Unity with the Lord (united with the Lord is one spirit with him (will your spirit fade away by being one Spirit with the Lord’s Spirit?)) and the Spirit of the Father dwells in it.
Or we are the Living Stones in the Temple of the Body and Jesus is High Priest but the presents of the Farther Spirit makes it glorious and holy (just like all the temples in OT)
When you read the passages and accept what is actually written there and you believe, than you will see it is actually makes sense, and really only makes sense if you recognized there is a Spirit of the Father and there is a Spirit of Christ. Two beings and fully independent. Independence made Jesus be able to put His Spirit onto the hands of the Father on the Cross.
Blessing!

Blessing!
