Life Original, Unborrowed, Underived

Description

Item type: Digital Booklet (pdf) (NOT a hard copy)
Author: Paul Chung

The Inspired phrase, “In Him was life, original, unborrowed, underived“, which can be found in the book, The Desire of Ages, p. 530 (also in Evangelism p. 616) is commonly used to argue that the life of the pre-incarnate Christ is ingenerate, without origin and therefore not begotten. Some (Adventist trinitarians) have also assumed an incompatibility between the above statement and Jesus’ own words: “For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself.” (John 5:26)

This article re-examines the validity of some of the arguments being employed using this expression and challenges the Seventh-day Adventist’s current position on its Christology.
